Our Mission & Approach
‘Microsite helps coalfield communities grow – removing employment barriers, developing skills and learning about the land.’
At its core, Microsite is about growth – not only of the trees we plant but also of the people and communities impacted by our projects.
As a company which predominantly operates in the North East of England, particularly in ex-coalfield areas, it is especially important for us that land is diversified and repurposed, giving back to the environment and community that it used to serve as part of the mining industry.
For us, this takes the form of community outreach and education, ensuring that our woodlands will be respected and cared for by the communities they exist within.
Part of this community outreach includes running Woodland activity events at our sites, inviting the local community to positively engage with the woodlands and sites. Events such as this have seen a phenomenal reduction in vandalism, such as on our Fishburn site, where, initially subject to repeat fires and vandalism, there have been zero incidents of vandalism post a recent Woodland activity day.
As well as communities, we also seek to help individuals develop and grow. This is done by providing employment opportunities and encouraging social mobility, especially for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. By providing these young people opportunities to learn new skills and acquire knowledge, our woodlands are future-proofed in the sense that the next generation will continue to ensure that our projects thrive.”
